My long-time love of Setters began in 1976 when husband, Chuck, and I moved to Virginia and just happened to live next door to a wonderful, female Irish Setter.  It was then that the decision was made to get one of our own and Penny came to live with us in February of 1977.  After she passed on, we just happened upon a two year old male Gordon, who had been dumped by his owner and had been in foster care at a boarding kennel for eight months.  Trapper was the one who got us totally involved in the world of dog sports and dog clubs: Showing, Obedience and Hunting Tests.  While Chuck was recovering from back surgery, he read an article about Red & Whites and decided he had to have one some day.  It took us 16 months to find him, but our next was Charlar’s Gilhooley, aka “Patrick,” who arrived in May of 1989.  Since then we’ve had a variety at all times, but always Setters....four more Gordons, one English, and one more Irish Red & White.  Rory was the one who was found running loose in Monterrey, Mexico, in late 1997.  We’ve now had him over six years and he still thinks he is a puppy!  Since moving from Omaha to the farmland in western Iowa in September of 2003, our “family” has dramatically increased in size to include five Setters of our own, and of course, the usual foster or two.

As part of my overall involvement in dog activities, I am a founding member, Treasurer and Rescue Chair for Missouri Valley Gordon Setter Club.  I was on the Board of Nebraska Kennel Club, serving there as Vice-President/Membership for four years. And I served five years as Vice President/Training Director for Omaha Obedience Training Club.  I am currently serving a sixth year as a member of the Board of Directors of the Gordon Setter Club of America.  I am one of the founding members of the Irish Red & White Setter Association, was on the Board and severed as Chair of the Nominating Committee in 1998, and have been the Rescue Coordinator since its inception in 1999.
