IRWSA approved to hold Plan A Matches. Excerpt from AKC letter dated April 11, 2007, "We are pleased to inform you that our committee acted favorably on your request and the Irish Red and White Setter Association of America has been approved for the holding of Plan A Matches."

Imported Breeding Stock DNA Requirement
Effective for imported dogs registered on or after March 1, 2006, any imported
dog registered with the AKC must have an AKC DNA profile prior to registering
its first litter whelped in the United States. This requirement does not affect
foreign dogs registered with the AKC before March 1, 2006. This requirement
applies to both males and females and will be used to verify future generations
produced by these dogs. What breeders/owners need to do if they own a sire or
dam that is subject to the requirement:

THE IR&WS ASSOCIATION, INC.. NOW THE NATIONAL PARENT CLUB...
On Monday June 13th, 2005 the AKC/FSS sent official word that the Foundation Stock Service Committee has chosen the IR&WS Association, Inc. the National Parent Club for the Irish Red & White Setter. Time line for advancement will be announced as progress is made.

Effective April 1, 2004: The Irish Red and
White Setter will be eligible to participate in AKC Pointing Breed Hunting
Tests.

"As of January 1, 2004 the IRWS [ AKC
FSS listing number is required] is allowed to enter AKC companion events,
obedience, agility, tracking

We are awaiting AKC approval for hunt tests, at this time they are not
available for the IRWS. Watch for update!!
Being able to enter AKC performance events does not constitute AKC
recognition of the breed.
We are still a rare breed listed with AKC FSS."
The Association has requested that the IR&WS be able to
compete in Hunt Tests & that those requests will be considered on a case-by
case- basis. Results of that request will be posted when received from the
AKC/FSS
