2006 National Specialty Critique
Thank you all for making my husband and I feel so welcome, we had a most enjoyable day. For my part I was very impressed with the super temperaments of the exhibit together with the condition and cleanliness of their coats.
However, I felt that the bone in some of the younger exhibits was rather fine for a Red and White, and I would pay attention to this aspect when looking at breeding stock.
Some of the exhibits looked rather high on the leg which I feel is because of the lack of bone. I was of the opinion that more consideration should be paid to the overall construction – bearing in mind that an Irish Red and White should give the impression of a more heavily constructed dog than, for instance, an Irish Red Setter. Some of the exhibits were verging on the ‘racy’ look that is not desirable.
Caniscaeli Eamon of the Hill - handler Eileen Burn - I understand that this was the first time this young lady had handled this puppy. It is always difficult to make a Red and White be still – and she had her work cut out. However, she succeeded in moving him beautifully. With practice it will come.
Absent
O’Dobhailien Kyla - handler Zachary Orcutt - A super cool young man. Handled this young bitch most sympathetically to get the best out of her. He was most professional in his attitude. Best Junior Showman
6-9 PUPPY DOGS
Keith & Corlie Eldred & Patricia Ua Siaghail’s Aislingeudo Is Seimi Fionnrua Well balanced young dog, with good depth of chest and spring of rib. Moved happily.
Barbara Burns’s Caniscaeli Eamon of the Hill. More immature than 1 and did not make the most of himself standing, but moved nicely.
9-12 month PUPPY DOGS
Gail & Leslie Harrison’s Can.CH Shireoak Caniscaeli Windsong Well balanced, good depth of chest and spring of rib. Moved steadily. Good head and expression. Looked good in profile and colour very clear. In the line up of unbeaten dogs he stood away- Star of the day. BEST PUPPY - BEST DOG and BEST IN SHOW
Tim & Monica Seiler’s Shireoak Whirl Wind litter brother to above. However more immature at the moment, moved well but did not have quite the head and expression of one..
15-18 DOG
Chris & Jacob Orcutt’s United Spots Oneil. Excellent colour with attractive head and expression. Good depth of chest and spring of rib, but would prefer more stifle.
Gary J Scypta’s United Spots Odonnel Litter brother to above, a little wide in front, pleasant head, colour could be better
Peg Berardinelli’s Marty Malone of Caniscaeli Well made dog, correct depth and spring of rib, good strong quarters. Head and expression pleasing. Would benefit from being moved faster – as he looked lethargic on the move which counted against him in the challenge.
Tami Orcutt and Christopher Orcutt Moonstone Ard Na Coille Correctly made in all aspects, moved well. I was sad that coat let him down in the challenge.
Harvey Hazen’s INT/Rarities Ch Rossmore Runnard Excellently made and balanced young dog. Good front and rear. Correct size and moved steadily with more drive than 2nd in this class. Handled to advantage RESERVE BEST DOG
Gary J Scypta’s Autumnwood Silver Star A veteran dog who is in excellent condition, a credit to his owner. Liked his head and expression very much. Moved steadily and well which belied his age.
9-12 BITCH
Kim Spelmer’s Shireoak Hurricane Ruby Very pretty bitch, moved well and shows potential. Very happy temperament.
12-15 BITCH
All Absent
15-18 BITCH
Christopher and Zachary Orcutt’s O’Dobhailien Kyla Feminine and well made bitch, very steady on move. Depth of chest and spring of rib correct. Colour fine with clear islands. Shows promise RESERVE BEST BITCH
Robert and Evangeline Devlin’s Mizen Gael Tegan Immature, but when left to relax had a nice outline, pretty head and sound mover.
Mike & Kathy Dodrill’s Waidman Erin Marleena Very nice outline, with pretty head and expression. Shows potential and with more ringcraft training would move up the awards.
Robert & Evangeline Devlin’s O’Dobhailien Alana Very pretty head and expression. Good spring of ribs. Outline attractive. Moved well and happily.
Jane & Joseph Benedetto & Pat Ua Siaghail’s Aislingeudo Treasa Fionnrua Well made, good outline moved steadily. Would prefer a little more ‘lip’ for finish on head, however very pretty BEST BITCH AND BEST OPPOSITE SEX
Kim Spelmer’s Rustasha Ruby Raindrop Another nice bitch, close up to 1 just not as good in front
Kathy Pellerito & Pat Ua Siaghail’s CKC Ch Aislingeudo Is Rosin Na Laoi JH 3rd in Open, a more heavily built bitch than the first two, which gave her not quite so feminine appearance. In hard condition.
Kim Spelmer’s Rustasha Ruby Raindrop On looking at my photographs – she has proved her worth with just this one litter so far. She has much to give to the breed and has done so. Congratulations.
United Spots Oneil - Very clear islands with his ‘red’ being correct, his white had required ‘pearly’ white sheen.
Some of the ‘Red’ Islands on the dogs were a little dark.
